New salicylic acid derivatives, double inhibitors of glycolate oxidase and lactate dehydrogenase, as effective agents decreasing oxalate production.

The synthesis and biological evaluation of double glycolate oxidase/lactate dehydrogenase inhibitors containing a salicylic acid moiety is described. The target compounds are obtained in an easily scalable two-step synthetic procedure. These compounds showed low micromolar IC50 values against the two key enzymes in the metabolism of glyoxylate. Mechanistically they behave as noncompetitive inhibitors against both enzymes and this fact is supported by docking studies. The biological evaluation also includes in vitro and in vivo assays in hyperoxaluric mice. The compounds are active against the three types of primary hyperoxalurias. Also, possible causes of adverse effects, such as cyclooxygenase inhibition or renal toxicity, have been studied and discarded. Altogether, this makes this chemotype with drug-like structure a good candidate for the treatment of primary hyperoxalurias.

Sexualidad y valores / Sexuality and values

Los retos de la Educación Superior para el siglo XXI plantean la necesidad de un nuevo proceso educativo fundamentado en los principios de la excelencia, calidad y pertinencia. Desarrollar nuestros planes de estudio para que se correspondan con las exigencias actuales de nuestra sociedad en materia de Sexualidad y los Valores, es un reto; y la introducción de un programa de Sexualidad donde se aborden valores como Responsabilidad, Fidelidad, Solidaridad y Amor, dentro de la asignatura de Psicología, permite acercarnos al objetivo de la formación de una personalidad sana en los tecnólogos de la salud a los que va dirigida esta propuesta. Se realizó investigación de estudio de campo que incluyó estudiantes de primer y último año del perfil de Rehabilitación social y ocupacional, de la filial Tecnológica de Matanzas, en los que previamente se diagnosticó necesidades sentidas en relación con diferentes temáticas (familia como célula donde se forman los valores, la comunicación como vínculo en el aprendizaje, los roles de género en la actualidad, el matrimonio, pareja y poder, las ITS, VIH y la diversidad sexual) las que sirvieron posteriormente para conocer, en relación al tema sexualidad, lo que es y lo que deseamos lograr que sea, a través de la creación del Proyecto de Programa donde proponemos: ¿qué y cómo hacemos para que la sexualidad y los valores se vivencien como parte del desarrollo de personalidad del sujeto? Paralelamente se involucraron activamente a los profesores en el aprendizaje de la sexualidad y los valores dentro de la investigación, a fin de lograr la formación integral del educando, tanto en su vida personal, social y laboral; acorde con las exigencias actuales de nuestro sistema de Salud.

The challenges of the High Education for the XXI century state the necessity of a new educative process based on the principles of excellent quality and pertinacity. It is a challenge developing our plans of study for them to answer to the current exigencies of our society related with sexuality and values; and the introduction of a program of Sexuality dealing with values like responsibility, fidelity, solidarity and love, in the matter of Psychology, allows us to come nearer to the objective of forming a healthy personality in health technologists, to whom the proposition is directed. We carried out a field study investigation including the students of the first and the last years of Occupational and Social Rehabilitation of the Technological Faculty of Matanzas. Previously there were diagnosed necessities related with different themes (the family as a cell where the values are formed; communication as a link in learning; generic roles currently, marriage, couple and power, STD, HIV and sexual diversity) that lately served to know, in relation with the theme sexuality, what it is and what we want it to be , through the creation of a Program Project where we propose: what? and How to do? to assure that sexuality and values are incorporated as a part of the development of the subjects Personality. At the same time, the teachers were actively involved in learning sexuality and values in the investigation, to achieve the integral formation of the student in his personal, social and professional life, according to the present exigencies of our health care system.
